Location: Masai Mara National Reserve, Kenya
To many people, Africa is synonymous with wide open savannas. And perhaps the most famous savanna of all, not just in Africa but globally, is the Mara-Serengeti Plains of southern Kenya and northern Tanzania.
The word 'Serengeti' means 'endless plains' in the local Maa language. It's not hard to see why this area is called so.
The Mara-Serengeti is one of the most productive areas of grassland on earth and supports the planet's highest density of large mammals, including the enormous herds of wildebeest that form the famous 'Great Migration' and the numerous large predators that hunt them.
