The augur buzzard is a bird of prey of mostly hilly and mountainous areas in eastern and south-eastern Africa, with a smaller population in Namibia and Angola as well. The species is mainly found in highlands above 1500m, where it hunts over open and wooded areas, but birds from the Namibian population are also know to go down to sea level.
