Species: Dwarf Mongoose (Helogale parvula)
Location: Kruger National Park, South Africa
Three dwarf mongooses peep out of a termite mound before emerging to begin their day's foraging.
The dwarf mongoose is Africa's smallest carnivore. For this reason, it has many predators and enemies to worry about and family groups often shelter in termite mounds for safety. Birds of prey and cats are particularly serious threats and packs of mongooses keep a constant lookout for them when foraging.
This species is found in savanna, thornbush and woodland across eastern and southern Africa.
